FACEBOOK, FRIEND? FOREVER?
Facebook allows users to store an unlimited number of high-resolution photos — over 350 million photos are uploaded per day. Sure, you may be happy to give Mark Zuckerberg a royalty-free, worldwide licence to your intellectual property, and apparently “you can delete your account any time” But, is there something you’re missing? And, “what will happen to your Facebook account when you pass away?” Yours, not mine – I don’t have one.
This is touching on what i was alluding to in my other comment in "What is a photograph", even if slightly off topic there. In embracing smartphones and cloud computing, we (the global we) have acquiesced some important rights to large corporations and Governments. Whether that is the right to privacy, to ownership and copyright, and because of this dismissiveness, individuals are in turn turning a blind eye to others rights for the sake of entertainment - but this also seemed to be accepted as the way it is now, and there does not seem to be a large scale movement to recover these things that were important to us 10 of 15 years ago.

I hope we have not (yet, fear we have,) gone too far down this path that a u-turn, or at least a left turn, in this area is impossible... I only just now read Victor Mayer-Schönberger's words, "Persuading people to forego a concrete present benefit in order to avoid potential future troubles is a hard sell."
